| This
series of photographs was recorded during 1975 while on a 3000 mile drive
around rural Guatemala, map
concentrating on the markets and the people therein.
Shortly
after I left the country in February 1976, it was rocked by a 7+ major
earthquake which devastated many of these locales. Another earthquake
was also brewing on the sociopolitical level, that would shortly lead
to a prolonged civil war involving various revolutionary forces and
the military. Whole villages were re-located to government
planned new towns, complete with spies, and local pro government bureaucrats.
These
are the selected photographs from over 900 B&W images taken with a
Nikormat EL, Tri-x film @ 400 ASA and 24mm, 55mm and 200mm Nikkor lenses.
They were printed on Polycontrast RC with slightly soft contrast to revel
the fabric and shadow detail. The web photos were sepiatoned in Photoshop.
