The Magnificent Trees
Antique Photographs from the Redwood Highway

Driving north along California route #101 through Mendocino, Humboldt and Del Norte counties, one reaches the fantastic old growth REDWOOD groves of Sequoia Sempervirens. These are the world famous groves of "Palo Rojo" or Coastal Redwoods. These gigantic trees for many years known as "The Redwoods" were popular tourist stops on the road north. These photos were taken during the last century when a precious few were saved for posterity.
