THE  BOUNDARY MONUMENT STONE IN OLD TIJUANA

A 1906 Snapshot
Please enjoy this vintage postcard view into the past at the San Ysidro - Tijuana Boundary Monument Stone.

On the "Boundary Line" between Tijuana and San Ysidro was a stone monument, a fixture of the border crossing for over 50 years. Many a tourist group of wagon, auto and train going "Excursionist" were photographed next to this obelisk whose whereabouts today is unknown.Today, thanks to eBay.com collecting these historical often one-off photo fragments, like the 1906 tourist snapshot at left is easy.

1901 and the monument is standing proud
Visitors in 1907 found an open border. Ten years later a water tank and railroad crossing appear. Early aerial showing stone in foreground with TJ in background.
A train station appeared in the 1930's then the stone was moved. Last seen in the late 50's perched atop an imposing base.
Early tourists pose for the local photographers, making small silver gelatin slivers of history one click at a time.
